      put the odometer/trip modes to the trip A... it will roll from odometer, trip A and trip B... and then make sure it is on trip A mileage... then press the mi/km button on the Prius Plug-in 2012 model. Any of the other trims are different.

    Good video for grid tied systems, but not for someone who lives off-grid like we do. It would be great to see an analysis of sizing of standalone off-grid systems. I recently did an analysis of a planned 48v system expansion, retaining my current 12v solar/battery system for DC use - as I live full-time in a motorhome with many DC appliances, like: lights, fans, hydraulic jacks, slide motors, DC fridge board, etc.). This would allow me to use the 48v DC bank/PV array exclusively for A/C use, such as, air conditioning, heat pump, microwave and other A/C powered household appliances. An Off-grid ROI must weigh solar array and battery bank size against a much higher Khw cost associated with running a back-up generator, as well as physical system size and weight limits of a mobile platform. For instance, my backup generator costs 50-60 cents/kwh to produce electricity vs say a 15-20 cents/kwh utility rate. There may also be restrictions on the time of day a generator is not permitted to run, such as a typical 10pm-9am quiet time exclusion. This means one's battery bank needs to last a minimum of 11 hrs. overnight - necessitating longer generator run times to recover the bank after several days of low/no solar production due to cloud cover/inclement weather. And there's no selling excess power back to the grid, it's either stored in in my batteries or the capacity is lost. On the other side of the equation, living off-grid with solar saves RV park lot rent, which can easily save us an average of $500-$900 or more a month to accelerate our ROI. Anyway, I'd love to hear a professional discuss the topic and I'm sure it would be of interest to over a million other FT RVers who boondock with solar as we do. Thanks!

    Box is aluminum.

  • @rhar1044
    @rhar1044 2 роки тому

    Grounding the box is redundant... first, because the box is already grounded on the right, as well as with your ground; secondly, the box is plastic. Grounding the box is for metal boxes, irrespective of whether or not you're also carrying a ground with leads and\or a neutral.

  • @rijoshj
    @rijoshj 2 роки тому

    Does the ground wire go all the way to the panel? Or just to a metal in the box? Which way is safer? Also wondering if we need to use THHN 6 gauge wire with a 60 amp breaker for hardwired option?

    • @airos52
      @airos52 2 роки тому

      Yes ground will need to land on the Ground/Neutral Busbar in the panel. For 60 Amps you will need 6 AWG THHN/THWN-2 Wire in conduit and NOT in Romex. Romex on the Ampacity Chart is listed at "NM-B" and is not supposed to run into conduit because romex in considered wire in conduit as it is made. I hope that whole sentence made sense? However, the Ampacity Rating on NM-B 6 AWG is 55 Amps Max... and most chargers only pull 48 Amp Max. SOOO... you should be good. If you buy 6/2 romex to do the run, just make sure you wrap the white exposed wire with Black Electrical Tape in the box and in the charger so if an electrician in the future works on the panel or replaces the panel, they will not land the white wire in your EV Circuit on to the Neutral Bar. If they do, then it will mess up your car.

    • @jerryn3
      @jerryn3 4 місяці тому

      @@airos52 So does this mean I can use 6/2 Romex with 60amp breaker to install inside my garage and therefore no conduit?

    • @airos52
      @airos52 4 місяці тому

      @@jerryn3 technically it needs to be 50Amp when it's in Romex but no conduit needed if it's stays in the studs and rafters. Basically if drywall can smash the wire then it needs to be in conduit.

    • @airos52

      @@jerryn3 for 60 amp breaker you need thhn in EMT or FMC but in Romex it gets derated to 50amps

    Adding the Chargepoint myself. I was curious did anyone tin and crimp the connection like the wires that came off of the plug version? The lever action connectors on the box don't seem very strong so was wondering if inserting a round bare 6AWG wire would cause any issues if it's not tinned and flattened?

    If you want 60amp circuit (48A load to your car) you need 6gauge 90C wire (no romex) wiring per NEH. Your install is okay for 50A circuit (40A load). It's clear in the directions.

    • @airos52
      @airos52 2 роки тому

      you are correct. And i did not use ROMEX 6/2. I used THHN/THWN-2 from the panel.

  • @GR-cn5zx
    @GR-cn5zx 2 роки тому

    thank you. You are installing a chargepoint of 32 AMP that needs a circuit breaker of 40 AMP. For that you need Romex AWG #8 and THHN #8 with ground #10. (COPPER) It is not uncommon to have wire #6 instead, even if not required by code, because of the continuous use of the charger. Particularly if you choose the AWG that has smaller thinner wires vs the solid wire in the THHN cable. By the way good job in using the ground lug.

    • @airos52
      @airos52 2 роки тому

      Yes you are correct. I late found out the Wire was not the governing limit on the AMPS. The breaker is rated at 70C and the Wire is rated at 90C but the install is supposed use the lower temp.

  • @ONI1013.
    @ONI1013. 2 роки тому

    If this a newer ChargePoint that is capable of running 50A, then you would need to hardwire using a 4AWG to a _70-80A circuit breaker_ to get the full capacity speed (with a max load of 50A). But most people who do the Hardwire installation only add the 60A breaker to run a sufficient 48A max load speed (and using 6AWG wires).

    • @spl1011
      @spl1011 2 роки тому

      65 or 70A breaker is fine. 6AWG is also fine (you can round up to next std breaker rating). The chargepoint box accepts 6gauge max. 4 gauge will not fit.

    Did you complete this install? I've been looking to do exactly the same design, except I was going to put in two float switches to control/protect the Booster pump. The first float would turn-off the Booster pump (as an Alert method) with maybe a 1,000 gallons of reserve water left in my 2,500 Gallon Tank. If the Storage tank gets this low, then something is wrong with the Submersible Water Well Pump is not re-filling the Storage Tank and that needs to be investigated and fixed. Then, I will put in a manual Switch to over-ride the first Float switch and give me access to the remaining 1,000 gallons while the Water Well Pump issue is being fixed (At least I'll have 1,000 gallons of reserve water and NOT be left high and dry). The second Booster Float switch will protect the Booster Pump from running dry. All the topics/videos on motor/Pump control shows the use of a Contactors as Motor Starters (which is nothing more than a high-end/high-current Relay). And, I can kinda understand using a Contactor for a 3-Phase high-voltage motor. But, for Single Phase 240V Pumps, like your Submersible Water Well Pump and Booster Pump I don't think a Contactor is needed. If we Open and Close one Hot leg of the 240V circuit to the Pump (like, for example, with a Float switch), that should be just fine to start or stop the Pump. Of course the Float switch will need to rated to carry the Voltage and Amps of the Pumps. Somebody, please tell me why my design is wrong/flawed. Thanks

We ran 40 psi on the first run, then 60, and then 80, and then 100 psi at a time. The device worked out pretty well. I had not reviewed my video in a while so i thought i would leave an update. lol

    Very nice. Also I agree with you that you hardly see any videos with the stream light and the XD period. It’s a shame cause the own a Glock 19 but I love my XD 40 and I been investing more into that firearm mainly cause it’s my home defense/carry gun when things get serious. I recently just purchased a TRL 7, some Fox grips and a set of Tru Glow night sights to pair with my light instead of getting the laser light combo I feel the Tru Glow would suit me more efficiently. I do plan on getting a TRL 8 for my XD & passing the TRL 7 to the Glock 19. Then I’ll have the laser light combo, fox grips & Tru glow sights then I’ll have one badass weapon. Living in CA unfortunately they do everything they can to keep us from protecting our families which is ridiculous. The most gun that are on the roaster to buy are 150$ more than other states, only 10 a magazine, and the paper work needed just for the background check is so much, with that said I cherish my handguns. I’m blessed just to have one legall cause most people out here don’t have that. Since we can’t own any form of assault rifles I’m making my XD one of a kind
